Job Description
First Line Leader – Specialty Medicine and Assembly

Are you looking for an opportunity to lead the production planning delivery within the safety, quality, planning and budget in a complex and highly regulated environment?  If so, this is the role for you.

The First Line Leader – Specialty Medicine & Assembly provides front-line leadership for a small team (5–10) of operators and technicians in an aseptic/sterile manufacturing and assembly area at GSK’s Zebulon site. This role ensures safe, compliant, and efficient execution of daily production activities, in line with cGMP, EHS expectations, and GSK Production System (GPS) standards to reliably supply high-quality specialty medicines to patients.

  • Safety & Compliance

    • Champion a strong EHS culture, ensuring safe behaviors, adherence to site safety procedures, and timely reporting and escalation of incidents, near misses, and hazards.
    • Ensure all activities comply with GMP/cGMP, aseptic/sterile processing requirements, and GSK quality standards, including proper gowning, aseptic technique, and documentation practices.
    • Own and drive closure of incidents, deviations, CAPAs and audit/inspection actions for the team, partnering with Quality and EHS as needed.
  • People Leadership

    • Lead, coach, and develop a team of 5–10 operators/technicians on a single shift; provide clear expectations, feedback, and performance management.
    • Plan and manage staffing, training, and cross-training to ensure the team has the skills and flexibility to deliver production plans.
    • Promote an inclusive, engaging culture aligned to GSK’s values and expectations, ensuring open communication and effective team meetings/tiered accountability.
  • Aseptic Production & Assembly Operations

    • Oversee day-to-day operations for aseptic/sterile manufacturing and assembly (e.g. formulation, filling, component/line preparation, assembly/pack) to meet the production schedule.
    • Ensure correct execution of batch records, set-ups, line clearances, in-process checks, and aseptic interventions, maintaining data integrity and right-first-time performance.
    • Monitor area performance (yield, cycle time, interventions, rejects, downtime) and drive actions to maintain product quality and sterility assurance.
  • Continuous Improvement & GPS

    • Use GSK Production System (GPS) tools to identify and eliminate losses, improve safety, quality, service, and cost; lead or support kaizen/CI activities within the value stream.
    • Lead daily tier meetings for the team, review KPIs, address issues, and escalate barriers in a timely and structured way.
    • Support or lead implementation of new procedures, equipment, technology, and ways of working to strengthen aseptic capability and robustness.
  • Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Collaboration

    • Collaborate with Planning, Engineering, Maintenance, Quality, MSAT and EHS to manage priorities, resolve issues, and maintain a stable, capable manufacturing process.
    • Support site readiness for regulatory and customer inspections; participate in walkthroughs and respond to questions related to the team’s operations.

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or other regulated manufacturing, with exposure to aseptic/sterile operations and GMP.
  • Prior experience as a lead operator, senior technician, or front-line supervisor in a production environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field.
  • Direct experience in aseptic filling, sterile manufacturing, or cleanroom operations, including gowning and aseptic technique.
  • Demonstrated people leadership experience (formal or informal) including coaching, performance feedback, and driving engagement.
  • Strong working knowledge of cGMP, EHS requirements, and batch documentation in a highly regulated environment.
  • Familiarity with lean/continuous improvement tools (e.g. visual management, root cause analysis, standard work, problem-solving methodologies).
  • Effective communication and decision-making skills with the ability to prioritize, manage multiple issues, and lead the team through change.

About the Zebulon Site

GSK’s Zebulon site is a global supplier of Respiratory and Solid Dose medicines to patients around the globe and the largest GSK Pharmaceutical secondary manufacturing site in North America.  The site is located less than 30 minutes from downtown Raleigh, Wendell, Knightdale, Rocky Mount and Wake Forest.

This role is **on-site** and requires physical activity throughout the shift. You’ll work in a temperature-controlled manufacturing environment with protective gear provided.
