Regulatory & Scientific Affairs Specialist - Quincy, IL
The Regulatory & Scientific Affairs (RSA) Specialist will deliver comprehensive regulatory support for the pet food products manufactured by ADM Animal Nutrition in North America. This position builds valuable knowledge and skills and works cross-functionally with R&D, Commercial, Quality, and Operations to ensure regulatory compliance and exceed customer expectations.
Job Responsibilities- Prepare and submit to internal customers complete and accurate pet food labels applicable to both AAFCO pet food and treats and NASC health supplements.
- Develop and maintain strong knowledge of relevant state and federal regulations, including but not limited to ingredient acceptability, product classification, labeling requirements, and allowable product claims
- Communicate with and advise company leadership about applicable changes to standards and regulations
- Provide regulatory guidance and input to other departments including R&D, Quality, Operations, Logistics, Procurement, Sales and Marketing, and Customer Service teams
- Review pet food and health supplement product labels to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements including marketing claims.
- Perform additional duties and special assignments in support of the RSA team as required
- Travel may occasionally be required for this position
Position Requirements- This position requires a self-starting, analytical, detailed and organized individual with a considerable degree of good judgment, excellent written and oral communication, strong interpersonal skills, self-confidence, and the ability to conduct activities without supervision.
- Familiarity with AAFCO regulations and NASC guidelines is highly desired
- Ability to apply general rules to specific problems and produce sensible answers
- Strong project management and problem-solving skills
- Must be able to multi-task several projects with various deadlines, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines while working in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work on a global, cross-functional team
- Commitment to continuous learning and personal growth
- Ability to focus on priorities and work under pressure to meet multiple deadlines with minimal supervision
Qualifications- Combination of education and professional experience related to pet food labeling, pet food compliance, feed science, animal science, chemistry, or a related field.
- Minimum of one (1) year of U.S. pet food labeling experience is required
- Animal Food Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) certification preferred
