Development Director
Indigo Arts Alliance (IAA) is seeking a Development Director to lead and steward the fundraising strategy that sustains and grows a Black-led arts organization at a pivotal moment of expansion.
In six years, IAA has grown more than 400% to a $1.4 million organization, hosting artists from 22 countries, launching Maine’s first Beautiful Blackbird Children’s Book Festival, and establishing an annual symposium series developed in partnership with world-class cultural institutions. As IAA continues to expand its programs, partnerships, and reach, strategic and relational fundraising leadership is essential.
As Development Director, you will architect IAA’s financial future. While the Executive Director focuses on organizational vision, board development, and national expansion, you will lead all development activities—ensuring that Black and Brown artists have the time, space, and support needed to create transformative work.
Fundraising at IAA is values-driven and relational. This role centers on building long-term sustainability through diversified revenue streams, strong donor relationships, and aligned institutional partnerships that reflect IAA’s mission and impact.
How You Will Engage
Fundraising Strategy & Revenue Growth
• Lead and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies supporting artist residencies, public programs, symposia
• Secure funding through grants, major gifts, individual giving, and institutional partnerships
• Steward IAA’s sustainability fund and support long-term financial resilience
Donor & Funder Relationships
• Cultivate and steward relationships with donors of all giving levels, foundation leaders, and corporate partners committed to racial equity and the arts
• Represent IAA at donor events, galas, and philanthropic gatherings
• Partner with the Executive Director and Board on major gifts and key funder relationships
Leadership & Collaboration
• Lead donor cultivation systems, reporting, and fundraising analysis
• Collaborate closely with the Deputy Director, who oversees operations and programs, allowing focused leadership on revenue generation
• Provide strategic fundraising insights to organizational leadership
How You’ll Partner with Leadership
• Executive Director: Sets organizational vision, leads Board development and fundraising, serves as primary spokesperson, and drives national expansion
• Development Director: Leads fundraising strategy, donor cultivation, and revenue analysis
• Deputy Director: Oversees operations, program delivery, and internal systems
Qualifications & Requirements
• Minimum of 7 years’ experience in nonprofit development with progressive responsibility
• Demonstrated success securing $2M+ annually through a mix of grants, major gifts, and individual giving
• Proven experience building and managing comprehensive fundraising strategies
• Strong relationship builder with experience engaging donors, funders, and partners in culturally responsive ways
• Experience collaborating with executive leadership and boards on fundraising strategy and cultivation
• Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills
• Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s preferred)
