Assistant Professor in Special Education with a Math Focus

The Department of Special Education at Illinois State University (ISU) in Normal, IL, invites applications for a tenure-track position to be filled at the rank of Assistant Professor in Special Education with a math focus.

Position: This tenure-track position, to start on August 16, 2020, is a nine-month position with the opportunity for summer employment. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses, producing peer-reviewed written works and other types of scholarly products, and providing service to the university and the profession. Required Qualifications: Applicants must hold an earned doctorate in special education or related field with a math focus (advanced ABD considered). State law mandates demonstrable oral proficiency in the English language as a requirement for this position. This position is security sensitive and employment is contingent upon passing a satisfactory criminal background investigation. You may not begin work until the criminal background investigation results have been received and cleared by Human Resources. Applicants are expected to show promise of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.

Desired Qualifications: Priority will be given to applicants who have experience teaching math to students with disabilities in grades PK- 12. This experience should reflect evidence-based teaching pedagogy, such as co-teaching models, inclusive environments, and culturally responsive practices to meet the needs of a diverse student population. Additionally, experience teaching math education courses at the university level is desirable along with an understanding of the current landscape of math education, including standards and key challenges.
