HOW TO APPLY

Teach Kentucky welcomes applicants that are not yet certified and ones who are already certified (or in the process of completing a certification). Please follow the instructions below:

  1. Apply. You’ll need to have some information handy; transcripts and a resume.
  2. Talk to us. A member of our team will email you to set-up an initial phone conversation. This call will give you more information about next steps in the application process and answer any questions you may have.
  3. Recruiting Weekend. This is where you’ll finally get a chance to visit Louisville! You’ll meet current participants, the Teach Kentucky staff and have the opportunity to meet with representatives from our university partners and Jefferson County Public Schools.

After the recruiting weekend, the real work begins. If you’re extended a spot in the program, you’ll start the next phase.

If you are not yet certified:

You will earn certification through a Masters of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program. You will apply for admission to an MAT program at the University of Louisville or Spalding University, or Asbury University, apply for a teaching job in Jefferson County Public Schools and start to plan your move to Louisville!

If you are certified:

You will transfer your certification to Kentucky and plan to move to town by July 1, apply for a teaching job in Jefferson County Public Schools and start to plan your move to Louisville!

If you have any questions about applying, feel free to contact us.

Earlier applications are often the most successful. We strongly encourage you to apply as soon as possible.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT

WE EXPECT A LOT.

The sponsors of Teach Kentucky have high expectations for our recruits, both in the quality of their teaching and in their contribution to the community as a whole. All Teach Kentucky participants are expected to:

  • Devote themselves to the education of all students
  • Act as a role model for students to emulate
  • Work to develop their teaching skills
  • Promote the value of high-quality education
  • Serve as ambassadors for the Teach Kentucky community

AND WE OFFER A LOT.

We at Teach Kentucky know that moving to a new city and beginning a graduate program is a big deal, and that finances are on the minds of all our new teachers.  We work hard to ease the expenses with starting an exciting new career in a new city. We offer:

$2,500 Summer Institute/Relocation Grant

Your journey as a TKY teacher will start with the Summer Institute, an eight-week teacher preparation program led by veteran teachers. To help ease the financial strain of relocation and committing the first couple of months in Louisville to settling into your new career, a generous private donor has made this grant possible.

Up to $4,000 Relocation Grant from the School District

Moving to a new city is no small feat; in addition to TKY’s relocation grant, JCPS offers relocation assistance. The grant amount depends on the relocation distance and is disbursed on the district’s timeline.

$14,000 AmeriCorps Grant toward Master’s Degree

TKY teachers are eligible for up to 2 years of the AmeriCorps Segal Education Award, which will cover a significant part of the tuition for a Master of Art in Teaching program at one of our partner institutions.

$47,000+ Immediate Starting Salary

Teach Kentucky partners with Jefferson County Public Schools to place teachers in classrooms. As the top-paying public school system in the state, JCPS offers a generous first-year base salary of $47,096.00* plus additional earning potential.

A pathway to earn $20,000 In Raises Over Your First 5 Years!

Teach Kentucky isn’t just committed to getting you into your first teaching job. We’re here to support educators as they climb the ladder and reach their career goals. Whether earning additional degrees or becoming a Nationally Board Certified Teacher, we’ll help you increase your rank and your income.
