Job Description: The primary functions of this position include contacting and working with faculty in identifying inventions, evaluating invention disclosures with regard to invention patentability and marketability, working with external patent counsel in the preparation of patent applications, seeking potential licensees and negotiating licenses, participating actively in start-up opportunities, collaborating with ORIC in creating educational programs and publications (including the intellectual property website), managing all aspects of license income, submitting all required reports to external sponsors, managing all aspects related to the payment of legal expenses and payments to inventors and maintaining accurate databases from which reports are derived.
Requirements: *Bachelors degree is required. *A working knowledge of negotiation techniques, the Bayh-Dole Act, federal agency regulations is required. *A working knowledge of Windows personal computers, including MS Word, MS Excel, Access, Powerpoint and Adobe Acrobat is needed. *A working knowledge of the PeopleSoft accounting system will be developed. * Excellent oral and written communication skills and a service-oriented attitude are essential. Preferred *No specific certification, licensures, or registrations are required *Five years’ experience in intellectual property management is strongly preferred. *An advanced degree in natural science and/or law is strongly preferred.
