Tips For Landing Your First Job After Graduation (3396 hits)

While it seems like only yesterday you stepped onto your college campus to begin classes, graduation is now almost here. Like your fellow classmates, you are probably eager to take what you have learned in the classroom and apply it to your new career. Of course, you're also eager to start getting that big paycheck and enjoying other great benefits. To make sure you land the job you want after graduation, here are some tips you can use to make your career dreams become a reality.

Do an Internship

While you are taking classes, see if you can line up an internship with an employer. This will give you important practical experience in your field, plus it will get you known to an employer who may be looking for bright, dedicated workers. In many cases, employers will choose to hire interns after they graduate, since they already know them and their work ethic.

Visit Your College Career Center

As you begin your final year of college, make plans to spend some time speaking to folks in your college's career center. If you are unsure of your career goals, you can get excellent advice from a career counselor. Along with this, your career center usually holds career fairs, hosts recruiters from various companies, and has a well-established network with employers across the country.

Take a Temp Position

Once you graduate and are in the midst of job searching, don't hesitate to take a temporary position offered to you by an employment agency. In today's world, more and more employers are choosing this as a way to screen potential employees for various positions. Whether you want a career in healthcare, business, or almost anything else, taking a temp-to-hire position can get your career going in the right direction.

Register with Job Sites

Finally, as graduation nears, start uploading your resume to various online job sites, such as Monster and Indeed. If you write an excellent resume, it's almost certain it will get the attention of an employer. While you may think your resume will simply be one of the thousands or millions online, the fact is employers scan these sites daily to find new employees. By making your resume as specific as possible, you may start getting one call after another to set up an interview.

Once you put these tips into practice, it won't be long until your hard work in the classroom pays off. Soon, you’ll land a fantastic new job that offers excellent pay and growth opportunities.
