The 11th District summer internship is more than a summer job, it’s an experience!



ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:




As part of the nation’s central bank, the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas is committed to strengthening the economy and our communities. At the Fed, you have the opportunity to become part of an important public service institution whose work touches lives across the globe. It’s a big job and that’s why we need talented, results-driven professionals who care about making a difference. The 11th District will be seeking quality summer interns to work in all of our offices, which include Dallas, El Paso, Houston and San Antonio. The Internship Program starts in June-August (8-12 weeks) and all internships are PAID and full-time!







Below you will find a sample list of our many business functions where we have historically placed summer interns. We encourage you to review the high-level department descriptions below and start thinking about which areas sound interesting to you. Once you determine which areas you are interested in, provide us with the following detail on your cover letter (resume is required as well in your final submission):

FEDERAL RESERVE BANK OF DALLAS BUSINESS FUNCTION DESCRIPTIONS






AUDIT

Internal Audit’s purpose is to provide quality internal audit services that add value and improve the Bank’s operations. Audit services include providing an independent and objective assessment of the adequacy, effectiveness and efficiency of control systems and operations; consulting on improvement of control structures and operations; and assisting the Bank in accomplishing its objectives through a systematic and disciplined approach to the evaluation and improvement of the effectiveness of the organization’s business risk management, control and governance processes. What types of majors does this function historically seek? Undergraduate and Graduate students majoring in Accounting, Information Systems & Decision-Making Sciences, Management or similar fields of study. BANKING SUPERVISION AND REGULATION




The Division of Banking Supervision and Regulation is responsible for the oversight of U.S. banking holding companies, foreign banking organizations operating in the U.S., and state-chartered member banks of the Federal Reserve System. The Division develops and implements safety and soundness and other regulations for these entities under Board direction and in collaboration with Reserve Banks and other domestic and international regulatory authorities. In addition, the Division supports the conduct of monetary policy by monitoring current conditions and prospective developments affecting the banking industry and financial markets more generally. What types of majors does this function historically seek? Undergraduate and Graduate students majoring in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Management, Business Administration or similar fields of study. BUSINESS CONTINUITY




Business Continuity Team, within Information Technology Services (ITS), is a Districtwide function that supports and guides business areas to prepare for, respond to and recover from potential crisis events. During crisis events or major business interruptions, Business Continuity staff supports facilitation of situation assessments across the affected office or business areas to provide senior management with status updates to support informed decision-making. Staff also provide crisis management support through planning, training and exercises, and response to actual events. The team is also responsible for ensuring compliance with the district Business Continuity Policy and the System Business Continuity Framework (common set of principles). What types of majors does this function historically seek? Undergraduate and Graduate students majoring in Business Management, Administration, Operations Management or similar fields of study. COMMUNICATIONS AND OUTREACH



The Dallas Fed is a resource for information related to the economy and the financial system. The goal of the Communications and Outreach Department is to pro­vide relevant and timely information so the people of the Eleventh District understand their economic and financial environments to better inform their decisions. The Dallas and branch offices work collectively to listen, understand and respond to the public's information needs. Through our geographic reach and expertise, we seek to en­gage individuals, families, institutions and businesses throughout the district. In addition, we cultivate produc­tive relationships with people and organizations of the Eleventh District. Through these relationships, we help communities reach their potential and inspire trust and confidence. What types of majors does this function historically seek? Undergraduate and Graduate students majoring in Economics, Sociology, Business, Graphic Design, Communications, Finance, Public Policy, Statistics, Community Development, Journalism or similar fields of study. CORPORATE PLANNING



The Corporate Planning Department coordinates strategic planning processes, communicates results, and helps facilitate the implementation of our organization's goals and objectives. Corporate Planning activities include the development, management, and communication of the Bank's Strategic Direction document, Board of Directors Monthly and Quarterly Reports, Annual Bank Evaluation document, High-Priority Objectives, and annual Officer/Manager Meeting. Corporate Planning staff also provides assistance and support for the Bank's employee survey and assists with various District efforts. Corporate Planning is also the home of the Bank's Business Excellence Office, which serves to coordinate and facilitate business excellence practices with the Bank by supporting organizational and departmental efforts. Undergraduate and Graduate students majoring in Business, Operations, Data Analytics, Educational Psychology, Strategic Management or similar fields of study. FACILITY MANAGEMENT AND PLANNING



Facility Management and Planning is responsible for space planning, renovation and construction to meet on­going business demands and ensuring the reliability and availability of all critical building infrastructure to improve efficiency of Bank operations. What types of majors does this function historically seek? Undergraduate and Graduate students majoring in Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain Management, Business or similar fields of study. FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT GROUP



The Financial Management Group provides finance and accounting support to district depository institutions, bank management and other Reserve Banks through its Accounts Payable Shared Services Center (APSSC) and Lawson-ImageNow Central Business Administration Func­tion (L-IN CBAF) functions. What types of majors does this function historically seek? Undergraduate and Graduate students majoring in Accounting, Operations, Finance, Business, Economics or similar fields of study. FINANCIAL INDUSTRY STUDIES



The Financial Industry Studies (FIS) Department pro­vides analytical products and services related to the financial sector, with the overall goal of promoting sound supervisory policy. Economists, financial analysts and programmers work with official management in the Banking Supervision Department to support specific supervisory responsibilities and address related policy issues. Outputs include surveillance tools, internal anal­yses and policy articles written for Federal Reserve and academic publications. What types of majors does this function historically seek? Undergraduate and Graduate students majoring in Economics, Statistics or similar fields of study. (Opportunities might exist in Dallas and Houston only)



HUMAN RESOURCES



Human Resources (HR) enables Bank management to attract, develop and retain talent, as well as provide services and products for the Bank that encourage and facilitate employee contributions to the Bank’s achievements. What types of majors does this function historically seek? Undergraduate and Graduate students majoring in Human Resources, Business, Operations, Psychology or similar fields of study. (Opportunities might exist in Dallas and Houston only)



INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY GROUP



The Information Technology Group (ITG) provides technology products and services that enable achievement of District and System business objectives. ITG has opportunities in areas such as Information Security, Service Delivery, Change Management, Software Development, Application Development, End User Support and so much more!! What types of majors does this function historically seek? Undergraduate and Graduate students majoring in Information Technology, MIS, Computer Science, BIS or similar fields of study. (Opportunities might exist in Dallas and Houston only)



LEGAL



The Legal Department provides counsel on legal issues to management and the board of directors at each office, represents the Bank in administrative and judicial proceedings and assists the Bank in complying with applicable law. The attorneys also help educate Bank employees on various legal issues and participate on numerous System committees. In addition, the deputy general coun­sel is the Bank’s ethics officer and advises employees on matters concerning the code of conduct. What types of majors does this function historically seek? Juris Doctorate ONLY. (Opportunities might exist in Dallas only)



RESEARCH



The primary purpose of the Research Department is to undertake research and analysis to benefit monetary policy and the System's financial stability and payments objectives. The department prepares briefings to support the Bank president's participation at Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meetings and for the board of director's discount rate recommendations. The Research Department produces and publishes relevant, timely and innovative research and statistics, currently with a focus in the areas of globalization, banking, energy, immigration, housing, financial markets and inflation. STATISTICS



The Statistics Department collects information to support the Federal Reserve's monetary policy, economic research, supervision and regulation, and the United States Treasury services responsibilities. Collected data are analyzed to ensure accuracy and compliance with requirements and to identify trends and developments that may have implications for users of the data. What types of majors does this function historically seek? Undergraduate and Graduate students majoring in Accounting, Economics, Finance, Business or similar fields of study. TREASURY



U.S. Treasury Electronic Payment Solution Center processing paper to electronic payment conversion as mandated by the Department of Treasury. Currently, about 98 percent of Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments are being made electronically. For the first time in recent history, the number of monthly paper check payments for Social Security, Veterans Affairs and other federal benefits has dropped to approximately 1.5 million - down from a high of 11 million in 2010. What types of majors does this function historically seek? Undergraduate and Graduate students majoring in Business Management, Business Administration, Operations, or similar fields of study. (Opportunities might exist in Dallas only)
